Home-made Bath Products

This has to be my ultimate dream bath.  An amazing view, a deep tub, and a rain shower as well.  You can't beat that.  This is my fantasy bath, but let's get back to reality.

Yesterday I wrote about how you can turn your bath into your own private oasis.  Today I'm going to talk about what you actually put into your bath.

I've already given you some recipes in my post on Lavender and Rosemary.  These are all things that I've tried at one time or another, but now that I'm very much into simplifying my life, I find them a bit too fiddly to be honest.   I have one basic recipe for my bath that I use over and over again and I find it's all I really need.

The one thing I recommend for everyone is to get a large nice looking jar with a lid that you can keep on your bathroom counter or somewhere close to your tub. The one below from Amazon is the kind I have.  It hold a lot, but since I have a bath every day I like the fact that I don't have to keep refilling it.  You need that and a nice scoop or cup to use with it.

You want to fill it with a mixture of half epsum salts and half baking soda.  The baking soda will ensure lovely soft skin, while the epsum salts will take care of any muscle soreness you might have.  I always buy both of these in bulk from Amazon since I use such a lot of it. You can now get scented epsum salts but I prefer to buy mine plain so I can then add whatever scent strikes my fancy.

Member's Mark (Simply Right) Epsom Salt 10 lb

This is the basic mixture that I always use for my baths.  A heaping cup full of this is what goes in first.  Then I add a few squirts of baby oil for softness, and a few drops of herbal essence oil.

You can get all kinds of herbal essence in just about any drugstore that has a cosmetic area.  These little bottles seem to be very expensive but they last a long time.  A few drops is all you need, and if you have a small collection you can change your fragrance as your mood takes you.  My favourite are Lavendar, Lemon and Vanilla but you can get many different kinds and different makes as well.
Lemon Essential Oil. 10 ml. 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade.
Vanilla Essential Oil. 10 ml. 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade.
Lavender Essential Oil. 10 ml. 100% Pure, Undiluted, Therapeutic Grade.

With this for a base, the only other thing I really need on a regular basis is some nice soap.  When I shower I use liquid soap because it's easier, but when I'm having my bath, I love to indulge in some really nice scented soap.  I think I spend more time sniffing it than actually washing with it, but then I don't take my baths to get clean - that's what showers are for.

I have to admit to some favourites when it comes to soap.  Crabtree and Evelyn Nantucket soap is my first choice,

Closely followed by Yardley English Lavender
Yardley London Classic Soap 3-pk - English Lavender

But for sheer luxury, you can not beat Savon de Marseilles.  This has to be the ultimate - at least as far as I'm concerned.

The best thing about soap?  It's totally affordable for just about anyone.  Indulging in this luxury will cost you just a few dollars a bar.

Of course once in a while I do also indulge in different bath oils.  I often receive these as gifts since my family and friends know what a bath fanatic I am!  But with my basic bath salt mix and my luxury soaps I always have this indulgence available whenever I want it .... and just for pennies a bath.  This is definitely what I call a Simple Pleasure.
